Designer Soledad created the colorful and vibrant Sol del Sur brand. Her friends have always called her Sole or Sol, and so this was transformed into Sol del Sur, translated in Sothern Sun. This play on words is a part of the designers charm, a look into her creative process and her love for crafts.
Soledad had been interested in crafts from an early age. At home, her mother had a collection of Guatemalan weavings hanging on the walls, giving Soledad a clear insight into what she would eventually become a part of in the future. She began taking weaving classes, and with pride, got her own loom.
While still in her youth, she moved from Costa Rica to Chile, growing up close to the Andean and Mapuche culture of textiles and graphics. This allowed her to continue on her journey, learing several craft skills while traveling around the country. The artisans she surrounded herself with, their colorful traditions and intricate crafting, gave her a newfound respect to artisanal work, helping to mold her work into what it is today.
She now lives in the U.S., and finds inspirations in all the contradictions she finds within her life: Her roots to her current life in the US, comfort and uncertainty, raw materials and modern lines, neutral to colorful pallets, soft and rough sensations, quiet landscapes and maddening city streets. All these contradictions become one in her designs. It is her intent to find the essence in things by creating simple objects with a complex design. In this process, she finds a calming understanding, a reassuring happiness.
She hopes to transfer her happiness to you, through her beautiful creations and amazing accessories. Here at Flechada, you too can find peace and tranquility with her unique designs, filled with intricate details and all the colors of life.
